Town officials reviewed a proposed $1 million Community Preservation Act appropriation to acquire a conservation restriction on 25 acres of the former Hawthorne Country Club in partnership with the Buzzards Bay Coalition. The Planning Board voiced serious concerns regarding potential state zoning overrides and ballot initiatives that would allow 5,000-square-foot residential lots in areas served by municipal water and sewer. Board members warned that state preemption of local town meeting authority could strain town infrastructure and alter established neighborhood character.
